Welcome!

Welcome to the website of the laboratory of Emmanuel Mongodin at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Baltimore, and the Institute for Genomes Sciences.

Our research program falls within the general themes of host-pathogen interactions and human microbial ecology. More specifically, we seeks to characterize the interplay between the major human opportunistic pathogen S. aureus, the human microbial flora as well as the host response. Our research focuses on translating genome-based knowledge, through integrative analysis of high-throughput technologies, into the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for infectious diseases involving S. aureus.

Our research goals are based on the hypothesis that the resident flora could provide alternative strategies for preventing colonization and infection by human pathogens such as S. aureus.
